ALVAH PERRY F. BONNEWELL SR.

Alvah Perry F. Bonnewell Sr. of the 100 block of E. Ocean View Ave. died April 13, 1997, after an extended illness.

He was born in Mathews County, Va., and was a member of Talbot Park Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was a member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge (NU)266, Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason, member of Khedive Shrine Temple and past patron of Ocean View Chapter (NU)34 Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Bonnewell was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 86th Infantry Division in both the European and Pacific theaters. He attended William and Mary College prior to opening the A.P. Bonnewell Tile and Marble Company. He worked in the ceramic tile and marble business for 53 years.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Doris Freeman Bonnewell; two sons, Alvah P.F. Bonnewell Jr. of Alexandria, Va., and Donald Lee Bonnewell and his wife, Karen, of Apex, N.C.; two grandchildren, Mimi Ingrid Halsey of Arlington, Va. and Ross Kelly Bonnewell of Apex; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil G. Bonnewell of Norfolk; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Harry T. Dixon and the Rev. Keith Martin. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Talbot Park Baptist Church, 6919 Granby St., Norfolk, Va. 23505. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
