GLADYS N. BISHOP

Gladys N. Bishop of the 200 block of York Drive died Saturday, April 12, 1997, of natural causes, after a short stay in a Portsmouth hospital.

She was born March 1, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, Va., daughter of the late Elijah and Ollie Higgs Norton. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond T. Bishop and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Jane Brooks of Leasburg, N.C., Ollie Oneida Bishop of Portsmouth and Brenda Vanderberry of Suffolk; a son, Nick Bishop of Virginia Beach; several nieces and nephews, including J.T. Brandon of Portsmouth; great-nieces and nephews of Tidewater and Danville, Va.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Allen L. Dooley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
