F. BRUCE TRAPPER

F. Bruce Tapper, M.D., 50, of the 3200 block of Silver Sands Circle, died April 12, 1997, in a local hospital.

Dr. Tapper was a native of Somerville, N.J. Since 1980, he was a partner at Dominion Psychiatric Associates in Virginia Beach. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968 from Rutgers - The State University, and Doctor of Medicine in 1972 from Hahnemann Medical College. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. His residency in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry was completed at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He was a diplomate of The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and also of the National Board of Medical Examiners. At Eastern Virginia Medical School, he served as assistant professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Tapper served in many capacities, including child/adolescent psychiatric consultant with the Norfolk Community Services Board, the Western Tidewater Mental Health Center and the Southeastern Cooperative Education programs. In 1970, he received an award from the Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation for his courage and determination in overcoming the challenge of hemophilia. He served as president of the United Virginia Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation, June 1984 to 1986. He was an active member and served for many years on the Board of Directors of Temple Israel.

Dr. Tapper was affiliated with the Medical Center Hospitals, Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Tidewater Psychiatric Institute, Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center and Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Dr. Tapper was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Maybaum Tapper. Survivors include his wife, Susan L. Tapper; two daughters, Elyse Tapper and Kimberly Tapper of Virginia Beach; his father, Dr. David M. Tapper of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Bea Kovich and her husband, Paul, of New York City; and several nieces and nephews.

A temple service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Temple Israel by Rabbi Michael E. Panitz, Cantor Yael Fischman and Cantor Emeritus Isaac Danker. Interment will follow Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Beth Israel Cemetery of Woodbridge, N.J., by Rabbi Richard Steinbrink. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Temple Israel, 7255 Granby St., Norfolk, Va. 23505, or The Hebrew Academy of Tidewater, 1244 Thompkins Lane, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464. H.D.
