Margaret Copenhaver Phillips, 84, died April 15, 1997, in a Norfolk health care center.
She was a native of Tazewell, Va., the daughter of the late India Moore and Dr. Rufus P. Copenhaver, and the widow of Albert Henderson Phillips. Following her graduation from Longwood College she taught school in Tazewell, and later in Norfolk. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Ghent United Methodist Church and the Laubach Circle.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Phillips Counselman and Mary Phillips Hall and her husband, Curtis, all of Norfolk; and four grandchildren, Lee and Richard Counselman and Alex and Chris Hall. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Neville Phillips.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Ghent United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Watts. A private family burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the McDowell Circle of Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, c/o Jennifer Kelley, Treasurer, 1105 North Shore Road, Norfolk, 23505.
