JOHN B. HARWOOD

Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. John Benjamin Harwood, 67, of the 400 block of Cold Spring Road, died April 15, 1997, in a local hospital.

Cmdr. Harwood was born in Racine, Wis. He was the widower of Marilyn L. Harwood. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach.

Cmdr. Harwood was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church parish council, finance committee and Social Ministry. He was the treasurer of Lutheran Manor Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Adult Learning Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Lauri S. Harwood of Lynchburg, Va.; three sons, David Alan Harwood of Virginia Beach, James Stephen Harwood of Panama City, Fla., and Robert John Harwood of Virginia Beach; a sister, Helen H. Griffis of Auburn, Wash.; a brother, Herbert H. Harwood of Johnson Creek, Wis., and five grandchildren, Zachary, Sara, Hayley, Justin and Chad.

A church service will be conducted at 6 o'clock Thursday evening, April 17, 1997, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Terry D. Clark and Pastor Harris L. Willis.

Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 3900 Virginia Beach Blvd., or a charity of choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
