BETTIE E. OBEY

Bettie Elizabeth Obey, 63, of the 3000 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd. died April 16, 1997, in her residence.

Mrs. Obey was a catering employee and had worked at the C.P.O. Club at the Norfolk Naval Base, the Omni Waterside Hotel, Howard Johnson's Hotel, Marriott Hotel and Cypress Point Country Club for 30 years before retiring five years ago. She was a native of Coinjock, N.C., and a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Norfolk, attending Sunday school and Wednesday Bible classes. She was a member of Booker T. Washington Class of 1952 and attended Norfolk State University. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, South Mills, N.C. She was also a former member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Norfolk.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Nathaniel W. Obey Sr.; daughter, Yvonne B. Everett of Virginia Beach; sons, the Rev. Nathaniel W. Obey Jr. of Greenbelt, Md., and Kenneth W. Obey of Largo, Md.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Ronnie D. Joyner. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. There will be a Wake Service in Hale Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday. The body will be placed in the church Tuesday at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at 1030 Mains Creek Road, Chesapeake, where they will also assemble Tuesday at 11 a.m. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
