WILLIAM M. SOURS

William Merchant Sours, 64, died Saturday, April 19, 1997.

He was a native of Chatham, Pittsylvania County, Va., and was a self-employed land surveyor. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Hampton.

Mr. Sours attended Hargrave Military Academy, the University of Virginia and Old Dominion University. He was a member of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, was past president of the Virginia Association of Surveyors Inc., a member of the Virginia Surveyors Foundation Ltd., the American Society of Civil Engineers and had served as a board member of the Virginia State Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Certified Landscape Architects.

Mr. Sours was an Army veteran, a Master Mason in A.F.A.M. Lodge (NU)85 in Courtland and a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Bodies Newport News Scottish Rite Temple.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patsy Ann Sours; three sons, Claude Grey Sours of Franklin, Robert Paul Sours of Newport News and John Thomas Sours of Hampton; a brother, Benjamin Franklin Sours of Hampton; two sisters, Katherine Moschler of Burlington, N.C., and Martha Young of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Ed Ellis in Drewryville Memorial Cemetery, Drewryville, Va., at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Masonic rites will be performed. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Association of Surveyors.
