RICHARD J. ALFRIEND III

Richard Jeffery Alfriend III, 77, a Norfolk native, died April 24, 1997.

He was the son of the late Richard Jeffery Alfriend Jr. and Miriam Whitehead Alfriend. A graduate of the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia Law School, he served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He served in the criminal division of the Department of Justice as a trial attorney before returning to Norfolk in the early 1950s where he practiced law until his death. He was a member of the Virginia State Bar Association, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the Norfolk Yacht & Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Kaebnick Alfriend.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Nancy C. Wood. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to a church or charity of choice. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
