Head-on collision

on Battlefield Blvd.

kills Moyock man

A head-on collision early Sunday left a 27-year-old Moyock man dead and sent another man to a hospital, police said.

The accident occurred about 2:10 a.m. in the 3700 block of S. Battlefield Blvd., said Dave Hughes, a police spokesman.

Randall Scott Overcash was headed south in his Ford Escort when he drifted into the northbound lane and collided with a Ford Bronco.

Overcash was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Bronco, taken to a hospital, suffered injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Hughes said. His identity was withheld.

Hughes said both drivers were wearing seat belts during the accident, which is under investigation.

TCC student is crowned

Miss Chesapeake 1997

Suzanne Humphrey, the 18-year-old daughter of Judy and W.A. Dunaway of Great Bridge, has won the title of Miss Chesapeake 1997.

The Miss Chesapeake Pageant was Saturday evening at the Oscar Smith High School auditorium.

The 1995 graduate of Great Bridge High and Tidewater Community College student also won the pageant's swimsuit/physical fitness competition. Humphrey will move on in June to compete at the Miss Virginia competition, a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant.

Other winners include Natasha Halsey, first runner-up and winner of the talent competition; Adell Healy, second runner-up and miss congeniality title winner; Angie Beale, third runner-up; Jaime Swingley, fourth runner-up; and Michelle Gettier, winner of the Community Service Award for her volunteer work at Chesapeake General Hospital and for other community service organizations.

Humphrey was crowned by Chesapeake Mayor William E. Ward, who was helped by Michelle Kang, Miss Virginia 1996, and Nita Booth, Miss Chesapeake 1996.

Elizabeth River Artists

celebrates its 25th year

The Elizabeth River Artists will celebrate its 25th anniversary today at The Max restaurant, 425 Water St.

Also, The Elizabeth River Artists' Spring Art Exhibit will be shown from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday to June 25 in the second-floor gallery of Maryview Medical Center, 3636 High St.
