William R. Beckwith of the 5600 block of Rycroft Court died peacefully in his home Saturday, April 26, 1997.
Born in Greenville, N.C., he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and formerly employed at Sears, Roebuck and Co. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Masonic Lodge, Rising Sun No. 2 and Eastern Star, Chapter Adeline Ward No. 197.
He is survived by his wife, Doris W. Beckwith; daughters, Marjorie Burton of Wayne, Mich., Carolyn Brown of Chesapeake and Benita Simmons of Virginia Beach; son, Richard Boyce of Virginia Beach; sisters, Annie Comer of Winterville, N.C., Annie Atkinson, Coristine Davis and Barbara White of Greenville, Iristine Vines and Annie M. Wiggins of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Charles Miller of Fort Royal, Md. and Jessie Miller of Greenville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; aunt, Jenny Gardner; sons-in-law, Emanuel Brown of Chesapeake and Ray Bradshaw of Wayne; daughter-in-law, Rosa Parrish-Boyce of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday, May 1, 1997, at Grace Episcopal Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Father Harold Cobb. Burial will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
