CONCERT ASSOCIATION TICKETS ON SALE

The concerts do not begin until Oct. 6, but the membership campaign is on now.

The Franklin Southampton Community Concert Association recently released its 1997-98 season schedule. Some of the dates and locations - Franklin and Southampton County high schools will be the places - will be announced later.

The concentration at the moment is on selling season tickets for the organization's 20th season.

Adult subscriptions for the five concerts are $25. Student tickets cost $10.

The first concert features a name familiar in Hampton Roads - Walter Noona. He will lead his trio, and offer some solo piano selections during an Oct. 6 presentation.

The second concert features Virginia Tech's New Virginians - 18 vocalists and eight instrumentalists, directed by Lisanne Lyons.

Tony Award winning Broadway vocalist, Debbie Shapiro Gravitte, will present a program of pop and jazz favorites, Jan. 22.

The art of dance will be exhibited March 11 when the Association presents ``Rhythm In Shoes.''

The season's fifth concert will be the annual performance by the Virginia Symphony. It is headquartered in Norfolk but performs in many other locales, most recently at Carnegie Hall.

Admission to the performances is by season subscription only. No tickets are sold for individual events. Local subscribers receive reciprocal privileges with the Portsmouth Community Concert Association, and the Roanoke Chowan Association in Murfreesboro. MEMO: Memberships are available by calling Beth Ellington at 562-2881 or

Nancy Rowe at 653-2498. Subscription prices are $25 for adults, $10 for

students.
