Eugene R. Kennedy, 70, also of Urbanna, Va., died Thursday, April 24, 1997. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Mr. Kennedy, ``Cookie'' loved baseball and was well-known for his pitching in the Manteo, N.C., area. Born July 30, 1926, in Lincoln County, N.C., he was the son of the late John Robert Kennedy and Tina Elizabeth Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Midgett Kennedy; two sons, Eugene ``Butch'' Kennedy Jr. of Saluda and Joseph ``Buddy'' Boyce of Springfield, Va.; four grandsons, David, Treye, Michael and Loran; two sisters, Bonnie Bateman of North Myrtle Beach and Pauline Duckworth of Mount Holly, N.C.; two brothers, Bobby Kennedy of Belmont, N.C., and Albert Kennedy of Lexington, S.C.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Manteo Cemetery, Manteo, N.C., with full military honors from the U.S. Coast Guard. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
