JUST THE THING FOR MOTHER'S DAY GRILLING

TREAT YOUR mother like a queen with Sunday dinner. Weather permitting, make a mixed grill entree using a variety of supermarket bargains.

Pork loin quarter chops are $1.69 a pound at Be-Lo. Rack & Sack and 3 Stores 1 Roof have club packs of T-bone or porterhouse steaks for $3.68 a pound. Club packs of beef back ribs are 98 cents a pound at Rack & Sack. Pork ribs are $1.28 a pound at Farm Fresh. Hannaford has store brand Italian sausage for $1.99 a pound.

Farmer Jack has 5-pound bags of boneless chicken breasts for $1.87 a pound, boneless pork chops for $3.67 a pound and boneless New York strips for $2.99 a pound. What, no bones for Fido?

If the weather isn't delightful, you can still cook to impress. 3 Stores 1 Roof has lobsters for $6.88 a pound and croaker for $1.48 a pound. Maine salmon is $4.99 a pound at Hannaford. Wampler oven roasters are 99 cents a pound at Be-Lo.

Veggie lovers can stock up on okra for 88 cents a pound and green beans for 77 cents a pound at Farmer Jack. Rack & Sack has yellow squash for 43 cents a pound. Farm Fresh has Florida sweet white corn, 16 cents an ear. 3 Stores 1 Roof has vidalia onions, 4 pounds for 99 cents.

Fresh fruit offerings include California strawberries for 87 cents a pound, mangoes for 59 cents each, kiwi for 10 cents each and Fugi apples for 79 cents a pound at 3 Stores 1 Roof. Hannaford has cantaloupes for 88 cents.

Bake a cake with Betty Crocker SuperMoist cake mix, 89 cents a box, and whipped or creamy frosting, $1.19, at Farm Fresh. Top it off with half-gallon of Breyer's ice cream for $1.99 at Rack & Sack. 3 Stores 1 Roof has a pound of Brown & Haley Belgium cremes for $6.99.

Warm days call for thirst-quenching beverages. Two 64-ounce bottles of Gatorade are $3 at Farm Fresh. 3 Stores 1 Roof has 2-liter Cokes for 69 cents and 64-ounce White House apple juice for 99 cents. Hawaiian punch, in 64-ounce containers, is 99 cents at Hannaford. ON THE SHELF

What is round, green and tart, and can blanket a burger?

Answer: Claussen ``Super Slices for Burgers'' introduced by a division of Kraft Foods Inc.

The crinkle-cut dills are made from super-sized cucumbers and can provide a crunch in every burger bite. They're available in the refrigerator section of stores.
