SARAH R. NORFLEET

Sarah R. Norfleet, 81, of the 1700 block of Claiborne Ave. died May 2, 1997, in her residence.

A retired nurse with 30 years of service at Lafayette Villa Health Care, Norfolk, she was a Como, N.C., native and the widower of Horace M. Norfleet. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Norfolk, and the adult missionary society, female usher board, health assistants, pastor's aid, Workers for Christ and Floral committees. She was employed at Richardsons Nursing Home for many years. She also practiced private duty nursing for many years. She was a past grand daughter Ruler of Beulah Temple No. 4 I.B.P.O.E.W., past senior matron of Taylor Memorial Tent No. 222, honorary member of Tidewater Nurses Association, Brambleton Senior Citizens League, and El Morocco Social Club.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sarah F. Velazquez of Norfolk and Dalphine A. Ricks of Portsmouth; son, Ray A. Artis III of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; aunt, Gladys Davis of Portsmouth; sister-in-law, Lucy Riddick of Murfreesboro, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, cousins and friends; and a comforting sister, Gladys M. Pretlow of Chesapeake.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Mount Zion Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Dr. Charles Hart. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will begin at noon and there will be a wake from 6 to 7 p.m. today in Pretlow's Funeral Home, Norfolk. Mrs. Norfleet will lie in state Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church.
