Thomas Milton Ricks, 71, of the 200 block of Sierra Drive, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mr. Ricks was born in Washington, Ind., and was the son of the late Rollie and Lena Bassett Ricks. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific as a hospital corpsman, where he received several commendations, including the Purple Heart.
Mr. Ricks was a member of Oaklette United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Great Bridge Masonic Lodge (NU)257; Royal Arch Chapter and the Grice Commandry. He was a charter member and the first president of the Chesapeake Dog Fanciers Association. He was a member of the Norwegian Elkhound Association of America, where he held offices for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Roper Ricks; his son, Thomas Wayne Ricks of Chesapeake; his daughter, Terri Ricks Knight of Newport News; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, by the Rev. Sebert Rorrer. Burial will follow with Masonic rites in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
