BLUEFISH AND GRAY TROUT CONTRIBUTE TO A GOOD DAY FOR ANGLERS ON PIERS

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was good Tuesday.

Fair numbers of bluefish and small gray trout were landed on Kitty Hawk Pier during the late morning and most of the afternoon.

Avalon Pier reported steady gray trout fishing during the morning. Most of the small fish were caught on double bucktail rigs halfway out on the pier.

Scattered bluefish, gray trout and a few speckled trout were taken during the afternoon.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught a few bluefish and small gray trout during most of the morning, and spot and mullet throughout the afternoon.

Sea mullet were landed on Jennette's Pier early in the day and some nice blues and small bottom fish were caught in the afternoon.

Outer Banks Pier reported a good run of bluefish weighing between 1 and 1 1/2 pounds just after sunrise.

Small bottom fish and a few trout were landed later in the day. Good numbers of bluefish were caught during the afternoon from the end of the pier.

On Hatteras Island, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier landed small gray trout, pigfish and some nice sea mullet off and on during the day.

Fishing was somewhat slow on Avon Pier with scattered pigfish, gray trout and sea mullet taken.

Frisco Pier also reported a slow day with small bottom fish and a 6-pound puppy drum taken.

Small bottom fish and small bluefish were taken by surf casters from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.

Anglers fishing from the catwalk on the south end of the Bonner Bridge landed small trout, scattered tailor blues and bottom fish.

Sea mullet and a few keeper gray trout were taken by surf fishermen along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

A few drum were released at Cape Point Monday night, including a 40-pounder by Carl Lambert of Buxton. A few mullet, flounder and small bottom fish were beached between Ramp 55 and Hatteras Inlet Tuesday.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was fair with a few small bluefish taken.

Pigfish, mullet, sea bass, gray trout and small blues were landed by the headboat Miss Oregon Inlet Tuesday morning outside Oregon Inlet.

Offshore charters out of Oregon Inlet landed limits of king mackerel, some tuna and a few dolphin in the Gulf Stream Tuesday.

Hatteras charters fishing south of the rockpile near the triple zeros caught lots of nice-sized yellowfin tuna, fair numbers of dolphin and a few wahoo.

The water temperature was 56 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 66 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Inlet.
