RICHARD A. WHITFIELD JR.

Richard Allen Whitfield Jr., 57, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at his residence.

A native of Nansemond County, he was a former employee of the Chesapeake Hardware Co. with 26 years of service. He was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church, Suffolk, Oakland Civic League, Crittenden Lodge No. 134, Prince Hall Masons AM&PM, and Chuckatuck Trotters.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Graves Whitfield; two daughters, Vivian Whitfield of Lanham, Md., and Venise Whitfield of Suffolk; four sons, Richard F. Whitfield of Suffolk, Elder Felton Whitfield of Portsmouth, Fred-rick A. Whitfield Sr. of Chesapeake and Fritz Whitfield of Raleigh, N.C.; mother, Lucille Whitfield of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Little Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. K.D. Shivers. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 6517 Everts Road, Suffolk. Viewing will be at Tynes-Edwards and Shivers Funeral Home, Smithfield, from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday.
