Richard Edward Stephens, 72, died Monday, May 12, 1997, in Greensville Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Southampton County and the son of the late Harry and Mary Branchcomb Stephens. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Christine H. Stephens; daughter, Laverne Stephens of Richmond; three sons, Dennis Stephens of Richmond, Melvin Stephens and Willie Stephens of Drewryville; five sisters, Ida Rylands of Norfolk, Viola Davidson of Maryland, Frances Young of Washington, D.C., Dolly Herndon of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Edna Harrison of Drewryville; eight grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. James Brown. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Knox-High Mortuary Chapel. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
