MARY E. RUTYNA

Mary Elizabeth Rutyna, 84, of the 1200 block of Lowery Court, died May 14, 1997, in her home, following a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Mrs. Rutyna retired from the federal civil service as a GS-9 in planning and Management, N.A.R.F., Norfolk, in 1975. She was a devout Christian.

The daughter of the late George W. and Mary E. Sawyer, she was born in Portsmouth on May 9, 1913. She was the widow of Micszlav Rutyna and was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert Rutyna and Donald T. Cash. She is survived by her son, Richard A. Rutyna of Norfolk, a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, her caregiver of more than eight years Dolores ``Dee'' Monaco and many friends who also loved and will miss her greatly.

A private graveside service of Christian Burial will be conducted at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, Friday May 16, by Father Luke Policicchio, O.S.B., of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Friends wishing to do so may make memorial contributions in her name to the Hampton Roads Chapter, Alzheimer's Association, 20 Koger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502. H.D.
