CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS - PORTSMOUTH

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Tuesday:

PUBLIC HEARING

West Norfolk Neighborhood: Rezoning application of the City of Portsmouth for technical corrections of the previous Comprehensive rezoning of the area. Approved.

Downtown Neighborhood: Request of Charles Reid to rezone property from Downtown D-2-Residential to Downtown D-2-K Industrial to operate an auto-repair business at 459 Perry St. Approved.

Hodges Manor Neighborhood: Request of China Market Enterprises, LTD, for a retail business expansion at 3535 Airline Blvd. Approved.

Olde Towne Neighborhood: Request of Water Taxi Inc. for use permit to operate a water taxi service at 10 Crawford Parkway. Approved.

CITY MANAGER'S REPORT

Adoption of an ordinance to amend Chapter 22 of the City Code by enacting a new Section 22.87.1 pertaining to refunds of City Vehicle License Taxes. Approved.

Adoption of a motion authorizing the City Manager to enter into development agreements with Portsmouth Partners of Virginia. Approved.

Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate a total of $12.42 million for $6 million in infrastructure costs and $6.42 million for land purchase costs of designated Parcels One and Two. Approved

Adoption of an ordinance amending Section 23-48 (a) of the City Code pertaining to inoperative vehicles. Approved.

Adoption of an ordinance expanding the membership of the Mayor's Sister Cities Commission to 21 members from 15. Approved.

Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority all right, title and interest theCity of Portsmouth may have in the eastern half of Nashville Ave. Approved.

Adoption of a motion to authorize the City Manager to acquire a portion of the inactive Virginian Railroad right-of-way between Portsmouth and Suffolk for the Norfolk Southern Corporation and to execute such documents as may be necessary for the acquisition. This right-of-way will provide property required to replace the aging low-pressure water transmission system, parts of which are over 110 years old. Approved.
