The Virginia Beach school system has reeled in a ``two-fer.'' Both the state administrator and state office professional of the year work in the Beach. Indeed, they work in the same office.
Anne Meek, technical and media assistant, and Katy Stuedemann, secretary to the assistant superintendent in the Department of Media and Communications Development, were awarded top honors in the state recently by the Virginia Association of Educational Office Professionals.
They now go on to consideration at the national level.
Kathy Bulman, assistant superintendent for media and communications and development, described Stuedemann as her ``right-hand person.''
``Katy's just a wonderful office administrator,'' she said.
Bulman credited Meek with the division's recent success in winning several awards for its publications.
``She really takes so much pride in her work. She's made the publications here just excellent,'' Bulman said.
In his letter of recommendation for Meek, Public Information Coordinator Joe Lowenthal wrote: ``When one works for and with Anne Meek, the days are a little brighter and coming to work is a worthwhile chore. I remain in awe of Anne's vast knowledge and intelligence; I am envious of her remarkable leadership skills; and I have found no better role model for integrity and personal qualities.''
Coordinator of Staffing James Tuthill wrote in support of Stuedemann's nomination: ``Katy can be counted on to go the extra mile when it comes to serving citizens of Virginia Beach and employees of the school system. She always displays kindness and patience in dealing with people. . . I have always known that I can count on her to perform in an exemplary manner.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photos
