FREE DETECTORS OFFERED: The Buckle Up Kids Bounty Program of the state Department of Insurance is offering free smoke detectors in exchange for used child car seats. Used, damaged and recalled seats will be accepted in front of WalMart in Kitty Hawk on Saturday and May 24, from 9 to 11 a.m.
``As state fire marshal and insurance commissioner, my goal is to keep our families safe on the road and at home,'' Jim Long said. ``That's why the Buckle Up Kids Bounty Program is so special. Not only are we helping to get unsafe child car seats off the road, we're also providing lifesaving smoke detectors to families,'' Long added. ``A working smoke detector doubles your family's chances of surviving a fire.''
