ANNIE J. WHITFIELD

Annie J. Whitfield, 93, of the 4000 block of Spring Meadow Crescent, died May 15, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth.

A native of Ahoskie, N.C., she was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Temple, Portsmouth, and a member and former president for five years of the Mount Hermon Baptist Temple Boone Missionary Society, former president of the gospel choir, and former president of the flower club. She was a member of Mount Hermon Chapter No. 19 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include Patrick H. Whitfield Sr., her husband of 70 years; three daughters, Jean W. Perry of Portsmouth, Florence W. Whitfield of Long Island, N.Y., and Jacqueline W. McCray of Baltimore; three sons, retired Col. Patrick H. Whitfield Jr. of Hampton, Royal C. Whitfield Sr. of Chesapeake, Lloyd T. Whitfield Sr. of Portsmouth; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild; three daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; a sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She was pre-deceased by a son, James C. Whitfield Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Mount Hermon Baptist Temple, Portsmouth, by the Rev. N. Lamonte Newsome. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth.
