Veterans observance
planned at Beach
with flags, F-14s
The Virginia Beach Mayor's Veterans Committee will hold an open house May 26 at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial to pay tribute to all servicemen and women from Hampton Roads.
Small American flags will be provided with name tags attached for citizens to write the name of a service member they wish to honor. The flags will stay in place for a week around the memorial, across from the Pavilion Convention Center.
The open house is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an F-14 flyover between noon and 1 p.m. F-14s from Oceana Naval Air Station will be joined by a Coast Guard C-130 and a HH-60 helicopter from North Carolina. There will be a 21-gun salute every hour on the hour by Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 48.
Speech, hearing experts
to visit Lynnhaven Mall
For Better Hearing and Speech Month, a team of speech pathologists and audiologists from Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters will be at Lynnhaven Mall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 31 to answer parents' questions regarding their children's speech and hearing development.
Although no screening will be conducted, staff members from the Norfolk hospital will explain and clarify concerns and issues related to childhood development and speech and hearing milestones at various ages. Call 668-8985 or 668-7809.
