Pier fishing was good along the northern beaches during the weekend.
Kitty Hawk Pier reported some speckled trout landed from the pier early Saturday morning. Lots of small spot, sea mullet and small gray trout were taken later in the day.
Fishing slowed Sunday, with a few gray trout, one Spanish mackerel and a 4.5-pound speckled trout taken.
Anglers on Avalon Pier landed lots of sea mullet, small blues and some gray trout off and on Saturday. Plenty of small blues were decked early Sunday morning, but action waned during the afternoon, with only a few sea mullet and blues taken.
Plenty of small blues, small trout, scattered spot and sea mullet were landed on Nags Head Pier throughout the day Saturday. Most of the bluefish hit red and white jiggers.
Action slowed Sunday, with scattered trout, small blues and sea mullet taken.
Fishing was steady Saturday on Jennette's Pier. Anglers caught nice sea mullet, small bluefish, spot and small gray trout most of the day. Quite a few mullet, spot and small bluefish were landed Sunday.
Anglers on Outer Banks Pier caught spot and sea mullet Saturday morning and small bluefish in the afternoon. Sunday's fishing was good, with small bottom fish, small gray trout and small bluefish taken at a steady rate.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported slow fishing throughout the weekend. Fishermen caught a handful of mullet, small trout and an occasional flounder.
Fishing also was slow during the weekend on Avon Pier, where a few small bottom fish and gray trout were taken.
A few small gray trout and croaker were landed on Frisco Pier Saturday. Dirty water Sunday kept action to a minimum. Anglers managed to catch only a few small bottom fish.
Surf fishing along the northern beaches was fair for small bottom fish. A few speckled trout were beached early Saturday morning from sloughs south of Kitty Hawk Pier.
Anglers surf fishing around Oregon Inlet and fishing from the bridge catwalk caught small bottom fish during the weekend.
A few sea mullet, spot and croaker were landed along the beach from Oregon Inlet to Buxton Saturday and Sunday. Some speckled trout were hauled form the surf early Saturday morning near theKOA campground in Rodanthe.
Night fishing at Cape Point produced a few big drum each night. Small bottom fish, a few flounder and scattered bluefish were landed during the day.
Several big drum were landed Friday night at False Point. Action was even better Saturday night, when anglers wading to a bar a short distance off the beach hauled in more than 20 big fish.
Small bottom fish, a few keeper flounder, and tailor blues were beached from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet Saturday and Sunday.
Inshore trolling was good in the ocean outside of Oregon Inlet Saturday. Plenty of bluefish, scattered albacore and some 2-pound Spanish mackerel were taken.
Blue water action southeast of Oregon Inlet was fair Saturday, with gaffer dolphin, some king mackerel and a few tuna taken.
Dolphin, a few tuna and several wahoo were landed near the Point Sunday. A blue marlin was released by the C-Note, and several sailfish were released by other members of the fleet.
Dolphin fishing was good in the Gulf Stream off Hatteras Saturday. A few tuna and some nice wahoo also were taken. Blue marlin were released by the Hunter and the Good Times. Most of the action was south of the Rockpile.
Good catches of dolphin were reported Sunday, along with scattered tuna and wahoo. A white marlin was released by the Good Times, and a blue marlin was released by the Wahoo.
Cobia should being to appear in fair numbers in Hatteras Inlet this week.
The water temperature was 59 degrees Sunday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 70 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
