CANADIAN RAILROAD SEEKS ACCESS TO PORT OF BALTIMORE: The Canadian railroad that Norfolk Southern Corp. agreed to improve links with last week is pushing Maryland officials for access to the port of Baltimore. Officials of the Delaware and Hudson Railway, the U.S. unit of CP Rail System, testified Monday before the Maryland Railroad Merger Advisory Council. They said the agreement to split Conrail Inc. between Norfolk Southern and CSX Corp. threatens the Delaware and Hudson's viability. The railroad gives CP Rail, also known as the Canadian Pacific, connections as far south as Washington. CP Rail and Norfolk Southern agreed last week to improve connections between them and grant each other access to key routes. The agreement preserves CP Rail's connection to Philadelphia, while Norfolk Southern got access to a direct link with a rail serving New England.
