Beaulah Adelia Babb, died May 15, 1997. She was born on July, 10, 1918, to Virginius and Mary F. Gwatheney.
She was one of six children that survived into adulthood. Raised in Chesapeake, Mrs. Babb also lived and worked in New York City, N.Y., during her late teens. It was during this time period that she developed her life-long love for reading. At the dawn of World War II, young Beaulah wed Mr. Joseph A. Babb. Their love endured the three long years he spent on foreign fields of battle while she worked in munitions factories. Upon their reunion, a union which lasted 52 years until Mr. Babb's death, they moved west to Oklahoma City and successfully build a Christian household full of security, humor, compassion, and love. They settled in the historic township of Boley, Okla., where they entered into a business partnership with Mr. Ben Keys and built a department store. In the late 50s they sold their interest in the store and moved to Oklahoma City, Okla. There Mrs. Babb devoted herself to Christian life and motherhood. She lovingly guided her only child Roger, born in 1959, along a path of academic achievement and enlightened consideration of others. Her generosity, intellect humor, warmth, love, compassion, and sense of justice will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Babb leaves behind her only son; a sister, Rosa Gibson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins with many more friends who were touched by her presence on this earth.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. in Sojourner United Methodist Church, 1001 N.W. 92nd St. with the Rev. C.R. Brooks officiating and arrangements by Temple & Son Funeral Home, all Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Babb will be laid to rest next to her husband on May 24, 1997 at Roosevelt Park, Norfolk. The Rev. Sidney Foster of New Hope Baptist Church will preside under the direction of Corprew Funeral Home, both of Portsmouth. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
