Rahsaan Camillus Cox, 21, of the 1800 block of Canton Ave., died May 19, 1997, in Nashville, Tenn.
She was a native of Portsmouth and the daughter of Betty Jo Ann Cox and the late Camillus N. Gibbs. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Suffolk, and the young adult choir. Rahsaan's early education was in the Portsmouth School System. She was a 1994 graduate of I.C. Norcom High School and a rising senior at Tennessee State University, where she majored in fashion merchandising. She was a member of the T.S.U. Marching Tigers marching band.
Survivors also include her two sisters, Jamila Cox and Leonica Cox; her surrogate father, Curtis Lee Jr. of Norfolk; grandparents, Eunice and William McKinley Cox Jr. of Chesapeake, Mrs. Louise Gibbs and the late John T. Gibbs of Portsmouth; uncles, Larry Cox and Kevin Cox of Chesapeake, Brian Cox of Norfolk, John T. Gibbs Jr., Narrio Gibbs of Portsmouth, Warner Gibbs of the Netherlands, Arnold Gibbs and Leo D. Gibbs of Chesapeake; aunts, Addie B. Carpenter of Richmond and Pamela Tyler of Springfield, Md.; and a host of other cousins, relatives, special friends in this area as well as special classmates at Tennessee State University.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday in New Hope Baptist Church, Pughsville Road, Suffolk, by the Rev. Dr. William E. Russell. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Riddick Funeral Service, Norfolk. The body will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends at 4820 Pughsville Road.
