WILLIAM I. MATCHELL

William I. ``Chub'' Matchell, 67, of the 300 block of Manteo Trail died Thursday, May 22, 1997, in Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mr. Matchell was the son of the late Lawrence and Audry Matchell and the husband of Frances Vaughan Matchell.

Mr. Matchell was a retired aviation mechanic serving 22 years in the U.S. Navy. He was owner/operator of the Pick-Wick Restaurant for 24 years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Fleet Reserve Association.

Surviving other than his wife are his stepdaughter, Charlotte Bunch of Edenton, and a stepson, Brent Holt of Edenton; brother, Winford Matchell of Phoenix; five stepgrandchildren, Michelle Cullen and Robert Howard of Frederica, Del., Dustin Bunch, Daniel Mizelle, Toni Lynn Holt of Edenton; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Evans Funeral Home Chapel, Edenton, by the Rev. Thomas Biggs. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times in the residence. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
