Joseph Thornton Register Sr., 71, of the 5100 block of Portsmouth Blvd., died May 22, 1997, in his residence.
A retired leading progressman at the Naval Air Rework Facility, he was an elder at Cradock Presbyterian Church, a member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge No. 178, Miriam Chapter No. 94, Order of the Eastern Star, president of Cradock Lions Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 898. He was a native of Orlando, Fla., and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Byers Register; two daughters, Judith R. Kah of Portsmouth and Carole W. Prince of Chesapeake; son, Joseph T. Register Jr. of Suffolk; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Cradock Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Richard W. Lovingood. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites. An Eastern Star service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday with visitation to follow in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cradock Presbyterian Church C.I.F.
