CLAREMONT J. CLIFTON

Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Claremont John Clifton, 67, died May 21, 1997, at his residence.

Lt. Clifton was a native of Wheeling, W.Va. and a resident of Tidewater for 37 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years. He was the past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council (NU)4632, past faithful navigator of the Father Nicholas J. Habits Assembly, Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Recipient, past treasurer of Game Wardens of Vietnam, former officer with the Virginia Beach Board of Realtors, USS Yorktown CV-10 Association, American Legion Post (NU)0308, and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene.

He is survived by two sons, Claremont ``Jack'' Clifton Jr. and his wife, Sindy, of Chesapeake, Richard Clifton and his wife, Glenda, of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Michelle Roenker and her husband, Ray, of Virginia Beach, Gail Domaleski and her husband, Gary, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Sandra Clifton of Norfolk; a brother, Wallace Clifton of Hollywood, Md.; a sister, Betty Lou Blatt of Wheeling; a special friend, Juanelle Hall; and 13 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. conducted by Fr. Edward Richardson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Matthews Catholic Church by Fr. Timothy A. Drake. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
