Alva Everett ``Nippie'' Garrett Sr., 72, of the 1900 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. died May 24, 1997, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
In 1995, he retired from the Virginia ABC Board as manager of the Virginia Beach Atlantic Avenue Store after 27 years. Born in Princess Anne County, Virginia Beach, he was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, and a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mosser Garrett; a daughter, Sandra Robold of Franklin; two sons, Alva E. Garrett Jr., Charles R. Stancil, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Rosamae Stinnett of Chesapeake; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Friends may join the family at Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Ave. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday.
