ANGLERS REPORT FAIR ACTION ON PIERS

Although gusty winds and rough seas made fishing difficult along the Dare Coast Tuesday, northern beach pier anglers reported some fairly good action.

On Kitty Hawk pier some nice size bluefish, a few keeper gray trout, sea mullet and small spot and croaker were landed through the day.

Avalon Pier reported fair numbers of small bluefish and lots of small gray trout taken. Most of the action was half-way out on the pier and bucktail rigs were the most effective bait.

Ten- to 12-inch bluefish were caught by anglers on Nags Head Pier sporadically during the day. Gray trout were plentiful but most of the trout were released as they were below the 12-inch minimum size.

Fishing was fair on Jeannette's Pier with tailor bluefish and scattered sea mullet landed.

On Outer Banks Pier plenty of small blues were taken by during most of the day. Some sea mullet were also landed.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported slow fishing due to rough seas. Little action was reported from Avon Pier as a strong running tide to the south made it just about impossible to fish.

Scattered sea mullet, gray trout and a few bluefish were landed at Frisco Pier. The water in the area was dirty due to strong winds.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches was slow Tuesday due to gusty, northeast winds and a strong tidal run.

Around Oregon Inlet, anglers landed a few gray trout and bluefish.

Very little action was reported in the surf along the beach from Oregon Inlet to Buxton, and fishing was slow at Cape Point.

A few bluefish, gray trout and pompano were landed by surf fishermen from ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Headboat action was fairly good around Oregon Inlet with some nice flounder and pigfish taken.

Offshore efforts were at a standstill along the Outer Banks Tuesday due to rough sea conditions.

The water temperature was 60 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 68 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
