In a brisk northeast breeze, Christy Brush, a graduate student at

the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, uses a Global

Positioning System device to plot points at the Avalon Pier in Kill

Devil Hills on Tuesday. Brush is a participant in a shoreline

mapping project being conducted by the state Division of Coastal

Management.
