CLARENCE Z. SHACKELFORD

Clarence Zachery ``Shack'' Shackelford, 65, of the 300 block of N. Broad St., died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, in Chowan Hospital.

A native of Norfolk, Mr. Shackelford was the son of the late Rhoden Clarence and Heneretta Clapp Shackelford and the husband of Mrs. Jessie Ruth Hudson Shackelford.

Mr. Shackelford was retired from the Peoples Security Life Insurance Co. and had worked many years for Durham Life where he had been presented with the President's Club award many times. At present, he was an independent insurance consultant. Mr. Shackelford was a member of the Edenton Baptist Church and had been involved with the Edenton Little Theater. He was an Exhausted Rooster with the Edenton Jaycees and past president of the John A. Holmes Band Association. He, along with his wife, owned and operated the Governor Eden Inn.

Surviving other than his wife are three sons, David C. Shackelford of Cary, N.C., Douglas R. Shackelford of Castle Hayne, N.C., and Gregory P. Shackelford of Edenton, N.C.; eight grandchildren and four nieces. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dillon R. Shackelford.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Edenton Baptist Church by Dr. Kenneth Word. Burial will follow in the Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Evans Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Chowan Hospital Foundation for HeartBond Cardiac Rehab, P.O. Box 629, Edenton, N.C. 27932. Evans Funeral Home, Edenton, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
