MOST FISHING STOPS WHILE STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS BLOW

Strong northeast winds continued along the Dare Coast Wednesday, keeping most fishing at a standstill.

Most of the action reported was from fishing piers along the northern beaches.

Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught few fish during the morning, but a few sea mullet and bluefish were taken in the afternoon.

Avalon Pier also reported a few blues and sea mullet taken. A 15-ounce flounder was decked by Walter Jones.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier landed a few small tailor blues on bucktails off and on during the day.

A few small tailor blues were caught from Jennette's Pier Wednesday morning and some small spot and croaker were landed in the afternoon.

Small bluefish, spot and sand perch were landed from Outer Banks Pier during most of the morning, but afternoon fishing was slow.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier and Avon Pier reported slow fishing because of rough seas.

A few sea mullet, bluefish and gray trout were caught from Frisco Pier Wednesday morning. Good numbers of sea mullet, scattered bluefish and pigfish were landed from the pier in the afternoon.

Surf fishing was slow from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. A few trout and small bottom fish were taken from protected waters on the south side of Oregon Inlet.

Little action was reported along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton because of gusty winds and heavy seas.

A few flounder, gray trout and sea mullet were hauled from the surf along the beach south of Cape Inlet.

Scattered sea mullet and small blues were beached by surfcasters from ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Headboats around Oregon Inlet caught a few small bottom fish, flounder and small blues.

No offshore trips were run from Hatteras or Oregon Inlet Wednesday because of rough seas.

The water temperature was 58 degrees Wednesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 60 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
