VIRGINIA BEACH
The third annual golf tournament to benefit the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Education Foundation takes place June 19 at 1 p.m. at Hell's Point Golf Club in Virginia Beach.
Proceeds are used for scholarships for deserving Virginia Beach students. Last year the tournament raised more than $8,000.
The tournament, with a captain's choice format, will have its shotgun start at 2 p.m., but participants should be at the course at 1 p.m.
Prizes including a Ford Explorer, a computer system and patio furniture have been donated for a hole-in-one. Other prizes will be given for the longest drive, closest to the pin and the top team.
All participants will receive complimentary golf balls and gift bags. Dinner, provided by Outback Steakhouse, will follow the outing.

Students of the Law Society at Commonwealth College are sponsoring a rally to raise awareness of the problem of child abuse on Wednesday, in conjunction with Stand for Children activities planned throughout the country.
The rally will include activities for children beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Virginia Beach campus at 301 Centre Pointe Drive. Activities will include face painting, story telling and photo identification pictures. A panel discussion on child abuse will begin at 6 p.m.

NORFOLK
The Blyden Branch Theatre Co. will begin workshops next week for 7- to 17-year-old students. The sessions will introduce audition techniques, history and rules of theater and the responsibilities of key figures involved in stage production.
Sessions for 7- to 12-year-olds begin June 6 and will be offered Fridays and Saturdays, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Classes for 13- to 17-year-olds will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 to 7 p.m. beginning Tuesday.
Workshops will be conducted at the Blyden Branch public library at 879 E. Princess Anne Road. For more information, call 441-2852.

The Norfolk Stand for Children Community Celebration will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lafayette Park in Norfolk. There will be food and entertainment for children and families.
