JOHN L. FISHER

John Lawrence Fisher, 79, of the 23000 block of Hanging Tree Road, a native of Southampton County, died May 29, 1997.

He was the son of the late Frederick W. and Mabel Fox Fisher. He had retired with 43 years of service as a track supervisor from Southern Railway. He was a deacon and assistant treasurer of Courtland Baptist Church and a member of the Men's Bible Class and the Men's Fellowship. He was a member of Mary Hunt Club.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bernice Ellis Fisher; five sons, John L. Fisher Jr. and his wife, Virginia Dare of Suffolk, Dr. Ellis Fisher and his wife, Meg of Gastonia, N.C., Wayne Fisher and his wife, Irene of Greensboro, N.C., Bill Fisher and his wife, Barbara of Ozark, Ala., Bob Fisher and his wife, Wanda of Belews Creek, N.C.; two sisters, Lillian F. Anderson of Columbia, S.C. and Mildred F. Claud of Franklin; and six grandchildren, Max, Megan Fisher of Charlotte, N.C., Jason Fisher and his wife, Dani of Dothan, Ala., Sarah Elizabeth Fisher of Raleigh, N.C., Jay Fisher and Jonathan Fisher, both of Suffolk. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, Ethel Claud, Helen Claud and Fred Fisher.

A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Courtland Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Caulkins. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggests that memorial be made to Courtland Baptist Church, Courtland, Va. 23836. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
