Table lamps sold
at Kmart are recalled
More than 41,000 table lamps sold at Kmart stores have been recalled because they can short-circuit and catch on fire.
Kmart has received 12 reports of the lamps short-circuiting, with five of those incidents resulting in fire and minor damage. No injuries have been reported.
The 15 1/2-inch-high bronze metal lamps have two frosted white shades shaped like lily flowers and a base shaped like a lily pad. The lamps sold for about $20 at Kmart stores nationwide from November 1996 through April 1997.
Consumers should return the lamps to any Kmart for a complete refund.

FTC bans company
from mail-order sales
Discount wallpaper and blinds? Delivery in two-three days? Illinois-based Worldwide Wallcoverings and Blinds Inc., which made those promises in national magazine advertising, seldom delivered the goods. For two years, the company pocketed the order money without shipping merchandise. More than 1,500 consumers lost an average of $250.
The Federal Trade Commission has banned the company's owner from mail-order sales and leveled financial penalties in settling charges against the company.
