FISHING FAIR ON NORTH BEACHES, WITH BITING BLUEFISH, MACKEREL

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was fair Tuesday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported a few tailor bluefish and scattered sea mullet landed during the morning. Afternoon fishing was slow.

Quite a few Spanish mackerel and two-pound bluefish were taken early in the day on Avalon Pier. A few bluefish were landed late in the afternoon.

Small bluefish and croaker were caught from Nags Head Pier off and on during the day.

Anglers on Jennette's Pier landed a handful of tailor blues and Spanish mackerel throughout the day.

Fishing was a bit slow during the morning on Outer Banks Pier, but a few blues and Spanish mackerel were taken in the afternoon.

South of Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught plenty of Spanish mackerel weighing between one and three pounds along with lots of bluefish early in the morning. Lots of blues and scattered Spanish mackerel were decked in the afternoon.

A few blues were landed from the end of Avon Pier Tuesday.

Frisco Pier reported relatively slow fishing, with only a few seamullet and gray trout decked during the morning, and scattered blues and Spanish mackerel landed throughout the afternoon.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches was slow Tuesday, with a only a few bottom fish taken.

A few blue fish, gray trout and speckled trout were landed around Oregon Inlet.

Only a few blues were caught by surfcasters along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

A few small bluefish and flounder were hauled in during the day at Cape Point.

Fishing was slow in the Frisco area, with only a few sea mullet and gray trout landed.

Bluewater action off Oregon Inlet was fair, with a few tuna and gray trout landed.

Hatteras charters landed plenty of gaffer dolphin, a few yellowfin tuna and scattered wahoo. A blue marlin was released by the Sea Creature.

The water temperature was 64 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 68 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. ILLUSTRATION: DREW WILSON
