NORFOLK

MCCRAW NAMED CLINICIAN OF THE YEAR: Dr. John B. McCraw, professor of plastic surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School, was selected as ``Clinician of the Year'' by the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. McCraw has been practicing plastic surgery in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area since 1975.

SADLER RECEIVES HONOR: George O. Sadler, president of Glenn & Sadler, was elected a Fellow by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The honor recognizes engineering professionals who have made significant achievements and contributions to the profession.

HAMPTON ROADS

1997 MAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR TO BE NAMED: Two South Hampton Roads business people will be the recipients of the Leukemia Society of America's 1997 Man and Woman of the Year Award. The two winners will receive their name, picture and company logo on 10 billboards around the city. To qualify, candidates must raise a minimum of $1,000 over six weeks. The top male and female fund-raisers win the title and prizes. The competition will begin with a celebration at 6:30 p.m. June 18 at the Virginia Beach Central Library. TIDEWATER TEENS WIN SCHOLARSHIPS: Phoenix Pharmaceuticals has awarded scholarships totaling $5,000 to five Tidewater-area high school seniors. Scholarship recipients are Valanda Riley, Menchville High School, Newport News; Jannat Scoon, Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk; Calvin Davis Jr., Hampton High School, Hampton; Porsche Lewis, Bayside High School, Virginia Beach; and Veronica Wright, Denbigh High School, Newport News. Each received a $1,000 scholarship. Landover, Md.-based Phoenix Pharmaceuticals markets prescription pharmaceuticals in traditionally underserved U.S. urban markets. The first minority-owned venture of its kind, Phoenix returns 10 percent of its net income to the communities in which it operates in the form of college scholarships. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
