MOST FISHING SLOW - OR DEAD

Pier fishing was slow again Thursday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported few fishermen and no fish. A few skates were landed on Avalon Pier out of the rough, dirty water.

The small numbers of anglers who tried to fish from Nags Head Pier caught nothing. Little action was reported from Jennette's Pier; Outer Banks Pier, which had a few small pigfish in the morning; Rodanthe and Avon piers; and Frisco Pier, where a few bluefish were decked in the morning.

Surf fishing was at a standstill from Corolla to Buxton Thursday because of 5- to 6-foot seas. Scattered bluefish were taken along the beach south of Cape Point.

Small bluefish and scattered flounder were landed sporadically Thursday from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling was fair for small bluefish around Oregon Inlet. Headboats in the area also caught small bluefish.

Although no offshore charters were run off Oregon Inlet Thursday, a few did fish off Hatteras. Although conditions were rough, fair numbers of dolphin and wahoo were taken by anglers trolling near the rockpile.

Weekend bottom fishing should be good along the Dare coast if seas subside.
