James Edward Henley of the 1000 block of Oaklawn Ave. died June 4, 1997, in Autumn Care Nursing Home.
A native of Norfolk, he was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. After graduation, James went into the Army and returned to work for the Navy Public Works Center. He retired after 33 years of service. James was an active member of New Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He was head of the usher board at New Calvary for more than 15 years. He was also a member of the Norfolk Masonic Temple, Rising Sun No. 2.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Rosa Elliott Henley of Norfolk; daughter, Kay Ellen Henley of Alexandria, Va.; brother-in-law, John Lee Boyce of Norfolk; cousin, Zeonbia Poynor; and a host of family and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, by the Rev. Gilbert G. Campbell Jr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
