Richard C. Hughes, USN, 33, of the 800 block of 14th St., died June 5, 1997.
He was born March 16, 1964, in San Jose, Calif. He was a computer technician and data systems programmer at Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic, Virginia Beach. He had served in Desert Storm on the USS John F. Kennedy and had 14 years' service with the Navy. He was a Presbyterian. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Richard C. Howard and grandparents Wesley B. and Gladys Hughes.
He is survived by his mother and father, James R. Sr. and Katherine Howard Hughes, and a brother, Raymond A. Hughes, all of Cumberland, Ohio; an uncle and aunt, John F. and Joy L. Felix, niece, Jeannie Felix, and grandmother, Ruth K. Howard, all of California.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Chapel by the Sea with Chaplain Ha officiating. A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Cumberland, Ohio. Burial will follow in Cumberland Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held this evening in Twiford Funeral Home, Great Bridge, Chesapeake, from 7 to 9 p.m. Twiford Funeral Home is handling all local arrangements.
