DOROTHY T. SMITHER

Dorothy Trent Smither, 85, of the 1000 block of Pennsylvania Ave., died June 8, 1997.

A native of Deep Creek, she was a daughter of the late Emma Deal and Harry Elmer Trent Sr. and widow of Dr. Archie Garnett Smither Jr. Mrs. Smither was a member of West End Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She graduated from the College of William and Mary and also studied in Germany for two years. She held a master's degree in library science from Catholic University and was a retired librarian with the Department of Navy in McLean, Va.

Survivors include a daughter, Melanie Trent of Richmond; a son, Michael Trent Smither of Essex, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Devon and Christopher, Trent and Beth.

A funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in West End Baptist Church by the Rev. T. Floyd Irby. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home today from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Boys' Home Inc., 306 Boys' Home Road, Covington, Va. 24426. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
