The fiercely contested race for the GOP nomination for state attorney general ought to be enough to stimulate a large turnout by Virginia Republicans.
They will choose a candidate to run against Democrat William Dolan in the November general election.
They also may be choosing a future candidate for governor; the current attorney general, James S. Gilmore III, aspires to the governorship.
Voters in the 76th District will pick both a Republican and a Democratic nominee for the Virginia House of Delegates seat occupied by Robert Nelms of Suffolk, who is not running. Local primary candidates are also on the ballot in some Hampton Roads cities. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Voting is a basic civic duty. Virginia's primary elections are open to partisans and independents alike, so any qualified voter may vote today. But Republicans especially should flock to the polls.
