CHARLES M. MORTON

Charles Myers Morton, 89, of the 2700 block of Chesapeake Blvd., died June 7, 1997, in his residence.

He was born in Norfolk May 7, 1908, and was the widower of Agnes Cross Morton. The superintendent of milk and food inspection for the city of Norfolk and the state of Virginia, he retired in July 1974. He was a lifetime member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 39, Norfolk; Ocean View 60 Plus Club; Senior Citizens of the 21st St. Recreation Center; Association of Retired Sanitarians. He was a member of the Republican Party and worked for the Norfolk Health Department for 37 years. Mr. Morton loved to dance.

Survivors include daughter, Doris Morton Morgan of Norfolk; two sons, Charles R. Morton of Norfolk, Ronald L. Morton and his wife, Ardis, of Norfolk. He was the grandfather of the late Ronald Lee Morton Jr., and surviving grandchildren, David Allen Morton, Cathy Morton Stevens, Carole Morgan Stewart and William ``Keith'' Morgan. He was the great-grandfather of James ``Brandon'' Stevens, Elizabeth ``Morgan'' Stewart and Haley Marie Morgan, all of the Tidewater area.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Nellie Parker Morton.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
