EDWARD F. SCHAFFER

Edward Frederick Schaffer, 71, of the 8200 block of Fernwood Drive, died June 7, 1997, in a Roanoke hospital.

A retired U.S. Navy senior chief boatswain's mate with 26 years of service, he also retired from the International Longshoreman's Association after 18 years. He was a Woodbury, N.J., native and the widower of Masano I. Schaffer.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Therese Schaffer of Delaware; four nephews, Edward Schaffer, Frank Schaffer, Joseph Schaffer and James Schaffer.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday by Chaplain B.L. Kingwood in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
