Three Maury players and two from Granby were named to the All-Eastern District boys soccer first team.
The Commodores put Parker Consaul, Michael Glover and Hank Morton on the first team, while the Comets were represented by Andrew Markham and Bryan Knight.
The team was dominated by district champion Churchland, with five first-team selections led by Player of the Year Landon Moore and Coach of the Year Duke Conrad. Moore scored 19 goals and added eight assists for the Truckers.
Consaul, a senior forward, had nine goals and eight assists for a Maury team that advanced to the second round of regional play after going 10-2 in district play. Glover, who also punted on Maury's football team and did double-duty with soccer and tennis in the spring, was a four-year starter at midfield. Morton, a senior sweeper, was slowed by a hamstring injury but shone at the end of the season, scoring two goals in Maury's regional victory over Hickory.
``Those three guys were the backbone of our team,'' Maury coach Mohsin Bousiane said.
Knight and Markham, both seniors, anchored the Granby defense all season with their rugged play. The Comets finished third in the district.
The first team was rounded out by Wilson's Josh Lashbrook and Ade Patton, along with the five Truckers - Moore, Stowe Buntz, John Powers, Stevie Hughes and Craig Hooker.
Maury placed three players on the second team - Pat McMahon, John Frank and Matt Minguez. Also representing Norfolk on the second team are Booker T. Washington's Justin Kelly and Carlos Shepard, Granby's Benji Flores and Joe Tumminelli, and Norview's Willie Richards. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
