Mrs. Florine Whitfield Harrison, 71, of the 1600 block of Great Bridge Road died June 10, 1997, in a local hospital.
A native of Chesapeake, she was born to the late Edward and Sarah Whitfield. She loved children and ran a kindergarten for many years. As a lifetime member of New Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, Chesapeake, she was affiliated with the laymen's organization, the educational club, the stewardess board and had served as a member of the senior choir and a class leader.
She completed her early education in the Norfolk County Public Schools and attended the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College, now Norfolk State University.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Sidney Harrison of Chesapeake; son, Dwayne Taylor of the Bronx, N.Y.; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Inez Whitlow and husband, Harry, of Ridgewood, N.J., and Mrs. Margie McDonald and husband, Richard, of Chesapeake; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Willoughby Whitfield and his wife, Helen, and Joe Nathan Whitfield and his wife, Connie, and Edward Whitfield Jr. and his wife, Ethel, all of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 525 Dinwiddie St., Norfolk, by the Rev. James Johnson, pastor of New Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, and Dr. I. Joseph Williams, pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family and friends will assemble at 1608 Great Bridge Road, Chesapeake, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for a funeral procession to the church. Metropolitan Funeral Service, Norfolk, is in charge.
